James Foote celebrates reaching 15 years service!

Today we are delighted to recognise and celebrate James's significant 15 year anniversary of his employment with us.  Reaching this milestone is a special occasion for James and is testimony to his loyalty and dedication to us over the years.

James joined us on 17 January 2011 as a Claims Administrator, working his way up to become Senior Claims Handler within the claims team.  We caught up with James who reflects over the past 15 years.

How does it feel to reach this milestone?

It’s a bit strange. It feels like I’ve been here for a long time but also doesn’t seem that long since I started. I think it’s a testament to the great culture and people here that have made it such a rewarding place to work.

You joined us in 2011 as a Claims Administrator after studying architecture at university. What attracted you to a career in insurance and to claims in particular?

At the time, I didn’t have a clear idea of what I wanted to do after university. When this opportunity came up, it stood out as being more interesting and varied than other roles I was considering. I didn’t know much about insurance back then, but the job description sounded exciting and offered the chance to learn something new.

How has your role evolved over the years, and what does your current position as Senior Claims Handler involve?

I started out handling motor claims, which gave me a solid foundation in the role. Over time, I moved on to household claims and, more recently, commercial claims, with the occasional marine claim as well. As the years have gone by, I’ve gained experience in managing larger and more complex cases, which can be both challenging and rewarding. Having exposure to different classes of business keeps the job varied and interesting.

In early 2023 you took on the additional role of Reporting & MI Lead for the claims team. What does this role involve and how does it support the wider business?

In this role, I’m responsible for key controls within the claims environment and for reporting to the group, particularly on larger claims. This reporting is important for the wider business to understand the financial impact of claims and reserve movements, especially at quarter and year-end. Accuracy is essential because these figures directly influence financial results.

How would you describe the culture and working environment here, and how has this contributed to your long-term career with the business?

From the moment I joined, I felt welcomed and quickly settled into the team. There’s always been a strong, supportive culture within the claims team and across the wider business. This support is especially important during challenging times, such as major storm events, where everyone pulls together. That sense of teamwork and collaboration has been a big part of why I’ve stayed with the company for so long.

Looking ahead, what are you most looking forward to in the next stage of your career at Intact?

I’m looking forward to continuing to develop my skills and take on new challenges. The insurance industry is always evolving, and I’m excited to keep learning and growing within the business.

Congratulations James and thank you from all the team for all your hard work and dedication - here's to many more years with us!
